Couture Correspondence

Love runs deep for Mr. Boddington’s Studio, a couture stationery atelier in Manhattan through which we are co-designing a fab letterpress paper suite for one of our stylish Fall brides. Rebecca Schmidt-Ruebensaal is a genius; her colors and custom handmade fonts are just as fashion-forward as our client’s taste- a perfect match!

Check out the sampling below…clean + crisp with a quirk- it’s all good.

Buddha, Buddha Everywhere and Not a Drop to Drink

Let’s discuss. We’re pounding the pavement at Market, and there are certainly fabulous trends abounding. As expected, we have seen a profusion of (our favorite) charcoal grey and sunny retro yellow- both of which one of our brides loves and has already snapped up in varying shades for her upcoming wedding.

However, the overriding motif is definitely BUDDHA. Not knocking our fat little friend/religious deity at all, but really? Do I need a polka-dotted, hand-painted, life-sized ceramic one with light-up eyes? Every showroom, every kind of retailer, everyone- has a version on display. It has become a veritable “Where’s Waldo” game as our team strolls up and down the hallways, throwin’ ‘bows every time another one pops up. Especially this guy:

tibetan-buddha-head

as opposed to this guy:

laughing-buddha

….whose presence is conspicuously missing.

Apparently, the top one is a Tibetan version of Buddha in his younger years, when he was extra lobe-tastic. The bottom one is the more commonly-seen Chinese version of Buddha in his geriatric years. After a few glasses of vino, we cornered one of the lead designers at our secret favorite showroom and demanded an explanation, and there you go…though I’m sure we’re still way off.

Back to business- we have picked up some fantastic ideas and can’t wait to share goodies with our clients upon return!
